Father's Day with Cookie Puss and Fudgie the Whale
Which Carvel Ice Cream cake speaks to you?
Hello, friends and Substack neighbors, welcome to another week of happy vibes, I hope you can find here.
Flower power can’t be stopped.
Carvel Ice Cream’s X account always makes me smile. Whoever runs that account, thank you for the fun. Are you Team Cookie Puss or Team Fudgie the Whale?
Tomorrow is Father’s Day (fun fact: I was born on Father’s Day. I’ll be celebrating my twenty-first birthday this week). Mental Floss has some Father’s Day facts you may not have been aware of. Here are a few that cam as a surprise to me:
“The first Father’s Day included a church service where daughters would hand red roses to their fathers during the mass. The roses were also pinned onto the clothing of children to further honor their fathers—red roses for a still-living father and a white rose for the deceased.”
“Woodrow Wilson commemorated it by unfurling an American flag in Spokane by way of a special telegraph all the way from Washington, D.C., in 1916. Progress on the holiday was slowed, though, when Wilson—who had previously signed a proclamation to recognize Mother’s Day as a national holiday—never signed the same paperwork for Father’s Day.”
“Americans are expected to spend about $22.4 billion on gifts in 2024 for Father’s Day, with clothing and “special outing” gear making up the bulk of the gifts.”
Animal dads also should be honored for Father’s Day. Congratulations to all the animal Dads or those animals who are like dads out there.

What I’ve been watching this month so far- I love reality food shows, especially any show hosted by Gordon Ramsay. If he had his own channel, I’d end up watching it 24/7. Currently two shows I’m watching, are MasterChef and Food Stars (both air on FOX)
Food Stars is fairly new (second season) but much stressful and competitive, while MasterChef has become a mainstay on FOX, and is more wholesome and highlights home cooks who end up shining and some becoming big stars in the food industry. Both show feed my food addiction. If you haven’t checked out either show, do so because you may end up learning some great good hacks and advice on how to run your own food-centric business.
This week’s book recommendation is from 2009- Practice Makes Perfect by Julie James.
Behind closed doors, they're laying down the law.
When it comes to the laws of attraction...
Payton Kendall and J.D. Jameson are lawyers who know the meaning of objection. A feminist to the bone, Payton has fought hard to succeed in a profession dominated by men. Born wealthy, privileged, and cocky, J.D. has fought hard to ignore her. Face-to-face, they're perfectly civil. They have to be. For eight years they have kept a safe distance and tolerated each other as coworkers for one reason: to make partner at the firm.
...There are no rules.
But all bets are off when they're asked to join forces on a major case. Though apprehensive at first, they begin to appreciate each other's dedication to the law—and the sparks between them quickly turn into attraction. But the increasingly hot connection does not last long when they discover that only one of them will be named partner. Now it's an all-out war. And the battle between the sexes is bound to make these lawyers hot under the collar...
Why I’m recommending this book- Practice Makes Perfect is one of the best opposites attract stories I have read in recent memory. I knew in the first five pages that this book was going to be score big points. I felt like I was in the middle of a 1940’s screwball comedy like His Girl Friday or The Philadelphia Story with J.D. as Cary Grant and Payton as Rosalind Russell or Katherine Hepburn. This is a zany, laugh out loud book that I didn’t want to end. This book is a must read.
**Does anyone know if Julie is still publishing? Her website hasn’t been updated since 2022, and her last book was published in 2017. I miss her books about lawyers and FBI agents, and the moment of comedy between the main couple.**
Allow yourself to enjoy that stillness inside you…
“Within you, there is a stillness and a sanctuary to which you can retreat at any time and be yourself.” -Hermann Hesse
I’m still on vacation in my head (Costa Maya, Mexico)
