Manatee Love and Edible Cookie Dough with a side of NKOTB
Living the best life through nature, food and music.
Hello friends to another week of the happy happy with some quirkiness in the mix.
Spring is in the air! I love the start of Spring because of the start of flowers blooming, which leads to me to snapping some great pictures of flowers, like this beauty I took a last week.
Another thing that makes me happy is the majestic manatee, also known as a sea cow. Based on The Everglades Foundation, November is Manatee Awareness Month and are related to elephants. They can also live up to 65 years in captivity. Say hello to my manatee friend thanks to Lesli who runs the MadMumblerDesign store on Etsy for all adorable and fun things crochet. If you love crochet product, especially crochet animals (she also will crochet other fun things if you ask), you must check out MadTumblerDesign.
What is it about edible cookie dough that is so addicting? Maybe because it reminds me of ice cream and it’s also easy to make? Over at Tastes Better From Scratch, you can find a delicious recipe for your own cookie dough addiction.
Have you heard of The Every Body Library? You should. It’s the “'The largest Beauty Industry-backed Reproductive Rights Campaign” From WomanlyMag: “An intimate curation of bookshelves lined with banned books, themes of reproductive justice, intersectional feminism, and women’s experiences — stepping into The Every Body Library leaves you with the itch to go do something. Hosted in collaboration with The Every Body Campaign, SEEN Library, and 60+ brands supporting reproductive justice for all, the pop-up library was open to the public on the weekend of February 23rd from 11 to 5pm at 251 Elizabeth St. in NYC. 100% of the proceeds from book sales go directly to supporting The SisterSong Collective, the largest multi-ethnic collective in the nation working to protect the reproductive lives of marginalized communities.”
I’m not ashamed to admit I’m still a hardcore fan of New Kids on the Block aka NKOTB, and have been since 1988. Whenever they release a new song, I am absolutely giddy. Their new song “Kids” is a great bop that I can’t stop listening to and will be on their new album “Still Kids”, coming out next month after 11 years since their last album. And it’s filled with original songs!
This week’s book recommendation is from 2020- The Carousel by Juliana Stone.
Pruett Fontaine is at a crossroads. Divorced, she’s lost herself and is struggling to find her place. When her estranged mother dies unexpectedly, she’s drawn back to Louisiana, to a family and town she left behind twenty years ago.
With no choice but to deal with her mother’s estate, a father she doesn’t know anymore, and the woman her mother left them for, she brings her teenage daughter to Sweetwater and collides with a past she’s been running from since she was eighteen.
Her mother’s journals open her eyes to a woman she barely knew, and she can’t outrun the sins of the past. Secrets are exposed, tragedies are revealed, and temptation rears its head over the course of one long, hot Louisiana summer.
Why I’m recommending this book- The writing is so engaging, as well as the setting. Prue is a character you can get behind as we follow her back home as she tries to figure out why her recently deceased mother, who she was estranged from, never showed much emotion and left her father for another woman, and opened a bed and breakfast. The mystery plot involved three people- Prue's father and mother, and her mother's girlfriend, who has her own secrets.
You’re exactly where you need to be this week…
