Refreshing Fruit Salad and Yip Yip Martians
Cooling off while Summer takes over.
Hello, friends to another weekly post of fun and chill vibes as the summer arrived with a roar.
Yellow flowers everywhere!
A kindly reminder as the summer heat sticks around, please take care of yourself.
I’m not sure what to think of this, but I guess an extra benefit your employer may provide is a plus, even if it involves your company paying for dating services. From Forbes:
“In the landscape of employee benefits, companies are continuously seeking innovative ways to enhance their workplace culture and support their employees’ well-being.
A study by Match published this year found that over 33% of U.S. adults surveyed are single, which translates to roughly 77 million people. Applying a similar proportion globally, this would suggest more than 2 billion single adults worldwide.
One intriguing and bold idea gaining traction is the inclusion of dating services as a company perk. As we navigate the future of work, integrating personal and professional life in a harmonious and inclusive manner could redefine employee satisfaction and engagement.”
Even snakes love to read. UPI.com reports that a four-foot snake was found in box of donated books at Virginia thrift store.
“An animal control officer in Virginia was summoned to a Goodwill thrift store after an employee sorting through a box of donated books found something they couldn't read -- a 4-foot snake.
The Stafford County Sheriff's Office said on social media that Animal Control Capt. J.A. Bice was called to the Goodwill store on Doc Stone Road in Stafford to get rid of the unwanted donation. “
Hearing how a pet donkey is “living his best life” with wild elk, is the best news I’ve heard this week. From The BBC:
“A pet donkey that escaped his owners five years ago in California has been found "living his best life" with a herd of wild elk.
Terrie and Dave Drewry, of Auburn, are convinced the animal, filmed by a hiker earlier in June, is their pet "Diesel".
The couple say they are relieved the animal is safe - and have decided to let him wander free with a new family as a "wild burro".
Fruit salad is a great treat for the summer. At the Kitchn, there is a great recipe for fruit salad. All you need for your own fruit salad:
FOR THE SIMPLE SYRUP:
· 3 tablespoons water
· 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
· 1 (2-inch) piece fresh ginger, peeled and coarsely chopped
· 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
FOR THE FRUIT SALAD:
· 1 large pineapple (about 4 pounds), peeled, cored, and cut into 1-inch cubes
· 1 pound strawberries, hulled and halved lengthwise
· 1 pint blueberries
· Fresh mint leaves, for garnish
There are so many great Muppets to choose from as my favorites, but my personal favorites are the Yip Yip Martians. I absolutely LOL myself silly everything I watch the skit where they discover a telephone.
This week’s book recommendation is from 2017- Buy the Book by Julie Sonneborn
Anne Corey is about to get schooled.
An English professor in California, she’s determined to score a position on the coveted tenure track at her college. All she’s got to do is get a book deal, snag a promotion, and boom! She’s in. But then Adam Martinez—her first love and ex-fiancé—shows up as the college’s new president.
Anne should be able to keep herself distracted. After all, she’s got a book to write, an aging father to take care of, and a new romance developing with the college’s insanely hot writer-in-residence. But no matter where she turns, there’s Adam, as smart and sexy as ever. As the school year advances and her long-buried feelings begin to resurface, Anne begins to wonder whether she just might get a second chance at love.
Funny, smart, and full of heart, this modern ode to Jane Austen’s classic explores what happens when we run into the demons of our past...and when they turn out not to be so bad, after all.
Why I’m recommending this book- This has a nice feel of an old fashioned romance. The main protagonist appears to have many faults, but most of them are internal. Anne is a college professor who loves classic literature ala the Bronte sisters and Jane Eyre. She is trying to get her novel published, especially because it will help her keep her job for next year. She is living paycheck to paycheck, her crotchety father needs more help than he wants, and her sister makes her feel constant guilt. Then there is the new president of the college, Adam, her former fiancé who may turn her world upside down because of their past.
Find many successes this week….
